What is yellow fever, and why is proof of vaccination often required?
Yellow fever is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes, found across parts of sub-Saharan Africa and tropical South America. Most infections are mild, but a proportion of cases become severe, affecting the liver and causing serious illness.
Because of this, many countries require an International Certificate of Vaccination as a formal entry requirement, particularly if you're arriving from or transiting through a country with yellow fever risk, so having valid proof can be essential to your itinerary, not just your health.

Questions about the yellow fever vaccine
Do I really need the certificate?
It depends on your route. Some countries require it for entry, especially if you're arriving from a risk country. We'll confirm exactly what applies to your trip.
How long does the certificate take to become valid?
It typically becomes valid ten days after vaccination, so timing matters for your travel dates.
Is one dose enough for life?
For most travellers, yes. A single dose is considered to give long-lasting protection.
Can everyone have this vaccine?
It needs individual assessment. Certain health conditions and ages may need a different approach, so please discuss this during your consultation.
